About Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has been described as “the last surviving member of the Age of the Movie Star.” He has played some of cinema’s most iconic roles, including Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible, Jack Reacher in Edge of Tomorrow, and John Travolta’s son in Face/Off.

Cruise has had a long career, starting off in the 1970s as a child actor, playing the role of young Indiana Jones in four films. His breakthrough came in 1983 with Risky Business, where he starred alongside Madonna. In 1985, he became the youngest person ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Rain Man.

In 1987, Cruise married Mimi Rogers. Their marriage lasted just two years, ending in 1989. A few months later, Cruise began dating Nicole Kidman, whom he met while filming Days of Thunder. They wed in 1990 and remained together until 2004, when she filed for divorce.

Cruise’s personal life has been marked by tragedy. After divorcing Kidman, Cruise suffered a severe case of acute stress disorder and went through therapy to overcome depression. He has since spoken openly about his struggles with mental illness.

Tom Cruise was raised in a tough environment. Born in Syracuse, New York on July 3, 1962 with the birth name of Tom Cruise Mapother IV, he spent much of his childhood moving around due to his father’s frequent unemployment. As a child, he was mostly cared for by his mother, Mary Lee, and her three older sisters.

Cruise’s parents divorced when he was 11 years old, and his father remarried soon after. By age 13, Cruise was living with his stepfather and stepsisters in Los Angeles, California. In high school, he began acting classes and joined a theater group.

In 1983, Cruise moved into a house with four roommates, including actor Emilio Estevez. They lived together for five years, during which time Cruise worked odd jobs and attended college part-time. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, where he studied communications.

Cruise’s life changed dramatically in 1986 when he met Katie Holmes while filming A Few Good Men. Soon afterward, she left him for another man.

The following year, Cruise married Mimi Rogers, whom he met while filming Cocktail. She filed for divorce shortly thereafter.

Cruise‘s next relationship was with actress Nicole Kidman, whom he dated from 1996 to 2001. Their daughter Isabella was born in 1997.

After divorcing Kidman, Cruise fell in love with actress Paula Wagner. They married in 2002 and welcomed twins Suri and Connor in 2005.
