Introduction
We’re going to learn how to draw a crow step by step in today’s tutorial, starting from the very beginning. Whether you’re looking to get started with art as a hobby or you have no idea where to start, crow drawing can be done by anyone and is fun and exciting! We’ll be doing our best to help you get started with this simple tutorial, so keep on reading!
The Head and Body of a Crow
To keep things simple, let’s start with drawing just add the head and body first. Start by drawing an egg shape for his head. Add some bumps for nostrils in between two circles for eyes. Sketch tiny triangles for ears underneath each eye.
Now draw another circle inside his head for a beak. Remember, crows are really big birds so make them really big! Next, draw two lines extending from either side of his beak up towards his eyes. These will help us place wings later on when we get there.
The Wings
On either side of him draw another curved line that starts right above where we drew our first wing lines and curves down to meet those initial wing lines. This will give us something solid to anchor our wings onto later on too. It might take a few tries—it took me several when I was learning how to draw crow—but give it time and keep practicing. You’ll get it!
Shading
Now take your pencil and shade in your sketch using light strokes going away from him until he is shaded nicely. When shading tries not to focus on any one area too much because doing so may lead you to leave areas unshaded unintentionally.
Instead, take a step back every now and then while shading and evaluate how even everything looks before moving forward again. If anything looks out of place or like it needs more work go ahead and fix it! Once you think he looks pretty good erase any extra pencil marks or stray eraser bits left behind once he’s been shaded completely.
Note
Remember that they stand tall with their chest out and heads held high. The key is putting in all those extra little details that make crow drawing fun. You don’t want to go too overboard, but also don’t want to get lazy! Keep things simple for kids so that they can follow along easily.
Experiment with Different Drawing Techniques
There are many different techniques you can use to create a simple crow drawing. Try experimenting with different shading techniques, such as cross-hatching or stippling, to add depth and dimension to your drawing. You can also use a variety of pencils, from soft to hard, to achieve different effects.
Practice, Practice, Practice!
The key to improving your crow drawing skills is to practice as often as possible. Set aside some time each day to work on your drawing skills, and don’t be afraid to try new things. With time and dedication, you’ll soon be able to create stunning crow drawings that you can be proud of.
