Introduction
You’ve probably encountered demons on TV, in video games, and in movies. Maybe you’ve even seen them in your nightmares!
But how do you go from sketching out scary scenes to drawing your very own demon? Learn how to draw demons step by step with the help of this guide!
Method – 1
Draw a Circle
Draw a circle in the center of your paper. The size of this circle will depend on how large you want your demon to be. For example, if you want to draw a small demon you may only need to draw a small circle, but if you want to draw a large, malevolent being then you might need to make it much larger.
Draw five lines coming out from the middle of the circle and fanning out toward the edge of the paper.
Fangs or Horns
Draw five lines coming out from the middle of the circle and fanning out toward the edge of the paper. These are known as fangs or horns
Draw a Face
Now use the edges of these lines as guides for where to put the demonic eyes, mouth, and ears. Don’t worry about making them perfect at this point because we’ll go back later.
Use a dark pencil to shade in the space between the fangs and below the jawline to create some depth (or dimension) in our monster’s face.
Torso, Arms and Legs
Draw a large oval for the torso and then sketch out four long, thin rectangles that will be the arms and legs. Sketch in a small curve at the end of each arm to indicate where they are attached to the body.
Feet & Cloak
Add detail to the feet by drawing circles on either side of the straight line that serves as their lower edge. Next, draw a shape like an upside-down egg with a narrow bottom and wide top to serve as the outline of the demon’s cloak.
The part of the cloak closest to the body should have a wider base than it’s top while the opposite is true for the part farther away from the body.
Finally
Use your pencil to fill in any areas that you want shaded (usually this includes underarms) or any areas you want white (usually this includes teeth).
The Demon is now complete! Congratulations on following these easy steps and learning how to draw demons!
Method – 2
Demons have captivated human imagination for millennia, depicted in folklore, religious texts, and modern media as powerful, often monstrous beings. With their captivating designs, they’ve become a popular subject for aspiring artists. But where do you begin when conjuring a demon from your imagination onto paper? Fear not, for this guide will equip you with the tools to bring your demonic creations to life!
Step 1: Building the Foundation
Every great demon needs a solid base. Start by sketching a circle in the center of your paper. The size of this circle will determine the scale of your demon. A smaller circle creates a mischievous imp, while a larger one evokes a towering behemoth.
From the center of the circle, draw five lines extending outwards. These will serve as guidelines for your demon’s fearsome features. Imagine them as rays emanating from a dark star.
Step 2: Fangs, Horns, or Something More?
Now comes the defining characteristic: fangs or horns? The classic image of a demon often includes these menacing protrusions. But demons are a diverse bunch!
- Fangs: Imagine a grotesque maw overflowing with razor-sharp teeth. Use the five lines you drew earlier to position these fangs. They can be long and curved like sabers or short and jagged like a shark’s.
- Horns: Demons are frequently depicted with horns, which can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Use the guidelines as a starting point for horns that curve upwards, backwards, or even twist into intricate spirals.
Feeling adventurous? Think beyond the traditional! Perhaps your demon has a bony crest, barbed tentacles, or even a halo of flickering flames erupting from its head. Let your creativity run wild!
Step 3: A Glimpse into the Demonic Soul
Use the remaining space on the circle and the tips of the radiating lines as a guide to draw your demon’s face. Don’t worry about perfect symmetry at this stage – demons revel in asymmetry and a touch of the grotesque.
- Eyes: Draw menacing eyes that pierce the soul. They could be glowing embers, reptilian slits, or even mismatched – one eye human, the other a swirling vortex of chaos.
- Mouth: A demon’s mouth can be a terrifying maw filled with fangs or a cruel smirk revealing a single, razor-sharp tooth. For a truly unsettling effect, consider a lipless grin that stretches unnaturally wide.
- Ears: Demons can have pointed ears like an elf, or bat-like ears for improved hearing. They can even be entirely absent, replaced by leathery flaps or serpentine frills.
Shade the area between the fangs or horns and below the jawline with a dark pencil. This creates depth and gives your demon’s face a menacing three-dimensionality.
